Bigger Field and Competitive Groups
With an expanded field of 12 teams, this edition is expected to be more competitive than ever. Eight teams have already secured their spots: England, Australia, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and West Indies. Four more teams will join them through the Qualifier scheduled for next year.
The 12 teams will be divided into two groups of six for the group stage, followed by the knockout rounds and finals.
Statement from ICC Chair Jay Shah
“The announcement of venues marks a significant moment as we gear up for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. This tournament will showcase the world’s top players in a celebration of skill, spirit, and sportsmanship,” said ICC Chair Jay Shah.
“The United Kingdom’s diverse culture has always shown strong support for all teams, which we witnessed memorably at past events. The sell-out Women’s Cricket World Cup final at Lord’s in 2017 remains a landmark in the growth of the women’s game, and I can’t think of a more fitting venue for the final,” he added.
Statement from ECB Chief Executive Richard Gould
“This will be the largest women’s cricket event ever held in England and Wales, and it’s an opportunity to reach more people and welcome new fans, young and old,” said ECB Chief Executive Richard Gould.
“However, it’s not just about size; it’s about providing a world-class experience for players, fans, and broadcasters alike, ensuring that the tournament reflects the elite performance of the players on the pitch,” he added.
A Decade of Women’s T20 World Cups
The 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup will mark the 10th edition of the tournament, which started in 2009. The most recent edition, hosted by Bangladesh in the UAE in 2024, saw New Zealand win their first title, defeating South Africa by 32 runs in the final.
