Alyssa Healy’s Unforgettable Night: IPL Match Suddenly Stopped

Alyssa Healy, wife of Mitchell Starc, shared her experience from the night of May 8 in Dharamshala. The Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was suddenly stopped. It was a strange and unexpected event.

Healy’s Journey with Starc

Healy is the captain of the Australian women’s cricket team. She has been traveling across India with Starc. She also plays for UP Warriorz in the Women’s Premier League (WPL).

The Match Interruption

Punjab Kings were batting first. They were at 122/1 after 10.1 overs when one of the floodlights went out. Soon, two more lights were turned off. It seemed like a floodlight problem, but it was due to air sirens because of the India-Pakistan border tension.

Evacuation of the Stadium

A blackout was ordered in Dharamshala. The whole stadium was evacuated. Players, match officials, and the broadcast crew were told to return to their hotels.

Healy’s Account of the Night

Healy was in the stands with family members of other Delhi Capitals players. She described the night as a surreal experience. She shared her story on The Willow Talk Podcast.

“Suddenly, a few light towers went out. We were sitting there, waiting. We’re a large group of family and support staff. The next minute, the guy who organizes us came up. His face was white,” she said.

She also mentioned that Delhi Capitals’ Faf du Plessis didn’t have his shoes on when this happened. Starc told her about the drone sightings and air-raid warning nearby.

“He said, ‘We need to go right now.’ Another guy came out. His face was white. He grabbed one of the children and said, ‘We need to leave right now.’ We were like, ‘What’s going on?’ We weren’t told anything. We had no idea. Next minute, we were shuffled into a room like a holding pen. All the boys were in there,” she continued.

“Faf du Plessis didn’t even have shoes on. We were all just waiting there, looking stressed. I said to Mitch, ‘What’s going on?’ He said the town 60km away had just been hit by some missiles. There was a complete blackout in the area. That’s why the lights were off. The Dharamshala stadium was like a beacon at that point in time. All of a sudden, we were crammed into vans and off we went back to the hotel. There was madness,” she added.

IPL 2025 Resumes on May 17

The day after, IPL 2025 was suspended for a week. The BCCI announced that the T20 league will resume on May 17. The final will be played on June 3. The Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match, which couldn’t be finished that day, will be played again on May 24 in Jaipur according to the revised IPL 2025 schedule.
