Rohit Sharma’s Retirement: Impact on India’s Test Series Against England
Rohit Sharma Steps Down from Test Cricket
Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma has decided to retire from Test matches. This news comes just before the BCCI announces the team for the five-match Test series against England. With Rohit’s retirement, India will see a new captain leading the team in this series.
Daryll Cullinan Shares His Thoughts
Daryll Cullinan, a former South African cricketer, believes Rohit’s retirement was expected. He feels that Rohit’s absence won’t greatly affect India’s performance in the Test series against England.
In a chat with the Hindustan Times, Cullinan mentioned:
“Rohit’s retirement from Test cricket, especially away from India, was probably expected. He hasn’t performed as well abroad as he has at home. We saw his hesitation to lead in the recent Australian series. So, I don’t think his absence will be a big loss for India.”
Can India Win the Test Series Against England?
Cullinan is optimistic about the young Indian players in the upcoming England series. India hasn’t beaten England since 2007. Their best recent performance was a 2-2 tie in the 2021/22 series.
Cullinan also said:
“India has a good chance if all their bowlers are fit. They can bowl out teams and have strong batters.”
India A Squad for the England Series
The BCCI has announced the India A squad for the England series. The team includes several promising young players:
- Yashasvi Jaiswal
- Dhruv Jurel
- Ishan Kishan
- Tushar Deshpande
