Enhanced Safety: Police Escorts for School Trips in Gujarat
New Rules for Safer Educational Excursions
Ahmedabad: Gujarat has made police escorts mandatory for all school trips. This includes picnics and educational visits. The state’s top police officer, Vikas Sahay, announced this new rule. It covers all schools, whether government-run, aided, or private.
What the New Rule Says
- Every school trip must have two police officers.
- If girls are on the trip, one officer must be a woman.
- School heads must inform the local police before any trip.
The police chief has shared this rule with the Education Department. He has asked schools to start following it right away.
Why This Rule is Important
This rule aims to make school trips safer. It also wants to build a better bond between students and the police.
Officials think that seeing police officers often will help students trust them more. This can make young people more responsible and helpful citizens.
How This Rule Came About
This decision comes from a big meeting held in 2024. The Prime Minister and the Home Minister were at this meeting.
A sad event in Harni, Vadodara, also led to this rule. Some students drowned during a school picnic. This made everyone think about how to make school trips safer. So, the government decided to change the rules.
