Kolkata Police Arrest Cyber Criminals for Digital Fraud
Eight from Rajasthan Caught in New Town and Howrah
Kolkata: The cyber cell and Parnasree police have made a big breakthrough. They arrested eight people for a cyber crime. This happened just two weeks after a young Bureau of Indian Standards official was tricked and lost Rs 25 lakh.
How the Arrest Happened
The police caught the criminals at Eco Park in New Town and Golabari in Howrah. This was after Souvik Sikdar, a BIS deputy director, complained at Parnasree Police Station on May 23. The criminals pretended to be CBI officials. They forced Sikdar to transfer money, saying it was for a drug case investigation.
Who Are the Accused?
All the accused are from Jodhpur, Rajasthan. They first rented rooms in New Town, Rajarhat. They kept changing places and split into two groups. Later, they started working from Howrah too.
DC (SWD-Behala) Rahul De said, “We think they did this to others too.” Sikdar, the victim, lives in Tetultala near Sakuntala Park in Behala.
Arrests and What’s Next
On June 5, the police caught three suspects at Eco Park. Their names are Narpat Singh, Rajendra Soni, and Harish Kumar. Using their information, the police arrested five more people in Howrah the next day. Their names are Manohar, Sangram Singh, Suraj, Dilip, and Jitendra.
