Latest COVID-19 Update: Active Cases and Measures in India
Current Situation
India’s active COVID-19 cases have risen above 6,000. In the last day, six deaths were reported.
New Infections and Affected States
In the past two days, 769 new infections have been recorded. Kerala is the most affected state. Other states with notable cases include:
- Gujarat
- West Bengal
- Delhi
The country now has 6,133 active cases.
Severity and Treatment
Most cases are mild. Many patients are recovering at home.
Death Toll and Previous Cases
Since January, India has recorded 65 COVID-related deaths. On May 22, there were 257 active cases nationwide.
Surveillance and Testing
State and district teams are actively monitoring cases of:
- Influenza-Like Illness (ILI)
- Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI)
Testing Guidelines
Testing is advised for:
- All admitted SARI cases
- 5% of ILI cases
Positive SARI samples are sent for Whole Genome Sequencing through the ICMR VRDL network.
Review Meetings
Technical review meetings were held on June 2 and 3. Sunita Sharma, Director General of Health Services, led these meetings. The goal was to evaluate the situation and preparedness efforts.
