Amit Shah’s Important Trip to Tamil Nadu
Amit Shah Visits Tamil Nadu Again
Union Home Minister and BJP leader Amit Shah landed in Madurai on Saturday evening. This marks his second significant trip to Tamil Nadu in just two months. His aim is to strengthen the party’s preparations for the 2026 assembly election.
Why This Visit Matters
- Shah’s visit follows the DMK’s general council meeting held last week.
- The DMK passed resolutions that criticized the Central government.
- There is an ongoing leadership struggle within the PMK, a BJP ally.
- The DMDK, an ally of the opposition AIADMK, expressed unhappiness over not receiving a Rajya Sabha seat.
Current Political Situation
Former Chief Minister and ousted AIADMK leader O Panneerselvam recently shared his disappointment. He mentioned that Shah did not meet him during his Chennai visit. The stances of Panneerselvam and TTV Dhinakaran, who lead smaller parties, remain unclear. Their support for the BJP’s NDA is still uncertain.
A senior BJP leader stated that the disarray in the NDA camp and issues within the PMK would not harm the NDA’s election prospects. “The differences will be resolved soon. We will face the election as a united front to defeat the DMK,” said state vice president M Chakravarthy.
Changes in Leadership
Notably, Shah’s visit is the second one after the state chief K Annamalai was replaced by Nainar Nagenthiran. Nagenthiran hails from the southern district of Tirunelveli, near Madurai. A BJP source mentioned that Nagenthiran would bring together the NDA allies. He will work towards the combine’s victory in the upcoming election.
