Karnataka High Court Demands Sealed Report on Bengaluru Stampede
High Court Orders Sealed Report
The Karnataka High Court has asked the state government for a sealed report on the Bengaluru stampede.
What Happened During the Stampede
The incident took place on June 4 near Chinnaswamy Stadium. Fans had gathered to celebrate the Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s win in the Indian Premier League. Sadly, eleven people lost their lives. Over 50 others were injured.
Court’s Quick Response
The court acted swiftly on June 5. It sent a notice to the Karnataka government. The court also requested a status report from the state.
The Acting Chief Justice and Justice CM Joshi reviewed the petition. They also looked at three other related pleas on Tuesday.
Government’s Stance
During the hearing, the Karnataka Advocate General shared an important point. The government prefers to keep the probe findings private. This is to ensure a fair judicial inquiry.
A judicial commission is now looking into the incident. They have one month to submit their findings. Meanwhile, some police officers have been suspended due to the stampede.
The court will review the matter again on Thursday.
Steps Taken by the Government
On June 5, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah took action. He suspended the Bengaluru Police Commissioner and several officers. He also ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident.
Recent Arrests and Petitions
The Karnataka Police made arrests on Friday. They arrested Nikhil Sosale, the marketing head of Royal Challengers Bengaluru. They also arrested Sunil Mathew, Kiran, and Sumanth from DNA Entertainment Networks.
These arrests followed the Chief Minister’s orders. He had called for the arrest of representatives from the Karnataka State Cricket Association, DNA Entertainment Networks, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
On Monday, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and DNA Entertainment Networks filed petitions. They aim to dismiss the criminal case filed against them.
