India’s Warning to Pakistan

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar made a strong statement. He said India would strike deep into Pakistan if provoked by terror attacks. This was reported by Politico, a news outlet based in the United States.

Retribution Against Terrorism

In an interview, Jaishankar warned of retribution. He referred to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. He stated, “If you continue to do barbaric acts like they did in April, there will be retribution.”

However, Jaishankar clarified something important. He said, “This retribution will be against terrorist organizations and their leadership.”

He added, “We don’t care where they are. If they are deep in Pakistan, we will go deep into Pakistan.”

Allegations Against Pakistan

Jaishankar alleged that Pakistan is training thousands of terrorists. He said they are doing this “in the open” and “unleashing” them on New Delhi.

Recent Conflicts and Ceasefire

Jaishankar’s comments came almost a month after a significant event. New Delhi and Islamabad reached an understanding to halt firing. This followed a four-day conflict.

Operation Sindoor

Tensions escalated on May 7. The Indian military carried out strikes codenamed Operation Sindoor. They targeted what they claimed were terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

These strikes were in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. This attack killed 26 people on April 22.

Pakistan’s Retaliation

The Pakistan Army retaliated to Indian strikes. They repeatedly shelled Indian villages along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. At least 22 Indian civilians and eight defense personnel were killed in the shelling.

Ongoing Tensions

When asked by Politico about the conditions leading to military hostilities, Jaishankar responded. He said, “If you call the commitment to terrorism a source of tension, absolutely, it is.”

Military Effectiveness

Jaishankar also answered a question about losses incurred by the Indian military. He said the appropriate authorities would respond to this matter.

He added, “As far as I’m concerned, how effective the Rafale was or other systems were, the proof is in the destroyed and disabled airfields on the Pakistani side.”
