High-Rise Obstacles Near Lucknow Airport

624 Obstacles Found Near Lucknow Airport

The Airport Authority of India (AAI) recently found 624 obstacles near Lucknow’s Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport (CCSIA). These obstacles include buildings, trees, and other tall structures. Some of these reach up to 170 meters above sea level.

What the Survey Found

A detailed survey covered a 20-kilometer area around the airport. Here’s what they found:

  • 319 buildings
  • 214 trees
  • 3 electric traction frames
  • 7 cellphone masts
  • Hoardings, light poles, antennas, cranes
  • A mosque speaker

These structures pose a risk to flight paths and safety.

Why This Report Matters

This report is very important. It comes after a recent Air India Boeing Dreamliner crash in Ahmedabad. The plane hit a building that was allegedly too tall. This shows the dangers of unchecked construction near airports.

Safety Rules Around the Airport

Around CCSIA’s runway, there are strict height limits for constructions:

  • Within 2,250 meters: Needs AAI approval
  • Between 4 and 6.1 km: Maximum height of 155-165 meters
  • Up to 9.1 km: Maximum height of 185-205 meters

CCSIA is 123 meters above sea level. These limits are crucial for safe takeoffs and landings.

What Experts Say

A former director from Uttar Pradesh’s civil aviation department said, “Safety is very important in the aviation sector. These rules are strict because lives are at stake. The AIP report will be carefully reviewed before any action is taken.”

Another official explained the airport’s safety measures. “Our airport environment management committee reviews safety regularly. Based on their findings, authorities take actions. This includes removing unauthorized structures that threaten flight operations.”
