BCCI Enhances Safety Measures After Bengaluru Incident
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has formed a committee. This comes after the tragic stampede at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The committee will create guidelines for safer victory celebrations.
BCCI’s Response to the Tragedy
The BCCI acted quickly after the incident. They decided to form a committee during their 28th Apex Council Meeting. The goal is to prevent such incidents in the future.
Committee Details
The BCCI announced the formation of a special committee. This committee will focus on creating safety guidelines. The members of the committee are:
- Devajit Saikia (Chairperson)
- Prabhtej Singh Bhatia
- Rajeev Shukla
These members have 15 days to come up with the new guidelines.
The Bengaluru Stampede
A stampede occurred at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4. This happened during the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s first IPL trophy victory celebrations. Unfortunately, 11 people lost their lives, and many others were injured.

Umpire Coaches Working Group
The BCCI has created a Working Group. This group will have five ‘Umpire Coaches’. Their role will be to oversee the development of umpires. They will also work on improving umpire performance on the field. All coaches must have international umpiring experience and be former umpires.
Match Referees Working Group
The Apex Council will form another Working Group. This group will consist of three former match referees. They will focus on the development and performance improvement of match referees.
Upcoming Cricket Series
The BCCI has confirmed the venues for India’s upcoming white-ball home series against New Zealand. This series is scheduled for early 2026.
Domestic Season Schedule
The Apex Council has approved the BCCI Domestic Season 2025-26 schedule. This ensures a well-planned and exciting season ahead.
