Progress in Identifying Victims
Ahmedabad’s Civil Hospital has made progress in identifying the victims of the recent plane crash. They have completed DNA matching for 92 samples. These samples correspond to 87 individuals. Some duplicates were found in the samples.
Bodies Returned to Families
Dr. Rajnish Patel announced that 47 bodies have been returned to their families. These bodies have been sent to various districts across the state, including:

- Ahmedabad
- Kota
- Mahesana
- Bharuch
- Vadodara
- Aravalli
- Anand
- Junagarh
- Bhavnagar
- Amreli
- Mahisagar
Details of the Crash
The incident happened on June 12. A London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed into a hostel complex. This occurred shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The crash resulted in 241 casualties. Among the victims was former Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani.
Statement from a British Expert
A British expert visited the crash site in Ahmedabad. The expert stated, “We might be able to speak later… We saw what you can see… It’s just the same, as you can see from here.”
Honoring the Victims
The final rites for former Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani will be conducted in Rajkot with state honors. Officials are bringing the Tricolour to the Civil Hospital mortuary to drape over his remains. The hearse van carrying his body will be adorned with 2,000 kilograms of flowers.
Continuing Identification Efforts
Officials are committed to handling each body with respect and dignity. They are ensuring appropriate care during the identification process.
Survivor and Additional Losses
Of the 242 people aboard, including 230 passengers and 12 crew members, only one person survived. Vishwashkumar Ramesh, a British citizen of Indian origin, is receiving medical treatment for injuries.
The disaster also claimed 33 additional lives. These included local residents and MBBS students. The aircraft struck the doctor’s hostel following the crash.
