A College Student’s Ordeal and the Aftermath
A shocking event unfolded on a beach in Ganjam, Odisha. A 20-year-old college student and her friend were allegedly assaulted by a group of ten individuals. This distressing incident occurred around 9:30 pm on Sunday.
The Sequence of Events
- The group initially targeted the student’s male friend.
- They forcibly dragged the friend away from the scene.
- The student was then subjected to an assault by the group.
Law Enforcement’s Response
Police are actively pursuing all individuals involved in this incident. To date, seven suspects have been detained. Authorities are still searching for the remaining three. “We are investigating if these individuals have any prior criminal records,” stated Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M.
A Disturbing Pattern in Odisha
This incident marks the second occurrence of such a disturbing event in a coastal town in Odisha. Just last week, a Class IX student was allegedly assaulted in a hotel near the beach in Puri.
Reporting the Crime
The crime was reported at 11 pm on Sunday. The student’s friend persuaded her to visit the police station. “The assailants were intoxicated. They used abusive language. When the friend objected, they physically assaulted him. Subsequently, they attacked the student,” a police officer reported.
Assistance for the Survivor
The student who survived this harrowing ordeal is receiving support. She has undergone a medical examination. Additionally, she is being provided with counseling to help her cope with this traumatic experience.
