Maruti Suzuki’s Green Move: More Vehicles by Rail

Maruti Suzuki plans to send 35% of vehicles by train by 2031

Maruti Suzuki's railway transport initiative

Maruti Suzuki India wants to send more cars by train. They aim for 35% by 2031. A new railway line at their Manesar plant helps this. It’s the largest cargo terminal in India. This will cut pollution and save fuel.

More Trains for Transport

Maruti Suzuki’s CEO, Hisashi Takeuchi, shared big news. The company will use trains more to move cars. They want to send 35% more vehicles by train by 2031.

Takeuchi said, “We will send 450,000 vehicles by train each year. This will make train transport 35% by 2031.” He said this at the opening of a new railway line at their Manesar plant in Haryana.

Growth and Green Benefits

The new Manesar facility is a big deal. It’s the largest cargo terminal in India. Maruti Suzuki has used trains for car transport before.

  • In 2015, only 5% of cars went by train.
  • Last year, 24% of cars went by train.
  • Maruti Suzuki was the first to get a car-train license in India.
  • Since then, they’ve sent over 2.5 million cars by train.

In March 2024, they opened their first railway line at their Gujarat plant. The new Manesar line will do even more.

Helping the Environment

Takeuchi talked about the green benefits. He said, “This is a 40% jump. We’ll cut 175,000 tonnes of CO2 and save 60 million litres of fuel each year.”

This is a big step for green transport. It shows Maruti Suzuki’s promise to cut pollution and use green logistics.
