KKR’s IPL 2025 Setback: Umran Malik Out Due to Injury

In a significant setback for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), their fast bowler Umran Malik will not participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 due to an injury. The young pacer from Jammu and Kashmir gained popularity during his time with Sunrisers Hyderabad from 2021 to 2024.
KKR Purchases Umran Malik for ₹75 Lakh in IPL 2025 Auction
At the IPL 2025 mega auction held in Saudi Arabia, KKR bought Umran Malik for ₹75 lakh. The three-time champions have now signed Chetan Sakariya as a replacement for the injured pacer.
Chetan Sakariya: The New Face for KKR
Chetan Sakariya, a left-arm fast bowler, has played one ODI and two T20Is for India. He has taken 20 wickets in 19 IPL matches. The former Rajasthan Royals player joined KKR for ₹75 lakh.
Umran Malik’s IPL Journey
Umran Malik made his IPL debut in 2021, playing three games and taking two wickets. His best IPL season was in 2022 when he took 22 wickets in 14 matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, his performance declined in the following two seasons, with only five wickets in nine matches.
Chetan Sakariya’s IPL Career
Chetan Sakariya had an impressive 2022 season with Rajasthan Royals, taking 14 wickets in 14 matches. However, his performance dipped in the next two seasons, with just six wickets. After leaving Rajasthan Royals, he joined Delhi Capitals before being picked up by KKR for IPL 2024. He did not play any matches in the 2024 season, which KKR won by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final. In all T20s, he has taken 65 wickets in 46 games at an economy rate of 7.69.
