Ford’s Gasoline Perfume for EV Owners: Mach-Eau
A Whiff of Nostalgia for Electric Vehicle Drivers
Buying a Ford Mustang Mach-E GT for around ₹4,897,000, you might anticipate the familiar gasoline scent when driving. But, in this electric vehicle, that’s not the case. Ford offers a solution: a “premium fragrance” named Mach-Eau, inspired by the aroma of gasoline.
Creating Mach-Eau
- A Ford Europe survey found 1 in 5 drivers would miss the petrol smell in electric cars
- Mach-Eau was developed to cater to this nostalgic scent
- The fragrance isn’t for sale, but its description is available
Mach-Eau: A Special Blend of Aromas
Mach-Eau, created with fragrance partner Olfiction, aims to recreate the gasoline scent while adding extra layers. The fragrance includes:
- Almondy benzaldehyde, reminiscent of car interiors
- Para-Cresol, mimicking the rubbery tire smell
- Blue ginger, lavender, geranium, and sandalwood for smoky, metallic, and rubbery notes
- An “animal element” as a subtle nod to the Mustang’s horse heritage
Supporting the Switch to Electric Vehicles
Ford introduced Mach-Eau to help drivers transition to electric vehicles more smoothly. According to a Ford survey:
- Nearly 70% of drivers said they’d miss the petrol smell when switching to an EV
- 1 in 5 specifically mentioned it as the scent they’d miss most
- The petrol smell ranked higher than wine and cheese in terms of what people would miss when switching to an electric car
Ford’s Vision for Mach-Eau
Ford hopes the Mach-Eau fragrance will generate more interest in electric vehicles and dispel EV myths, persuading traditional car enthusiasts of their potential. Although Ford has developed the fragrance, it hasn’t been released to the public yet.
