Ex-VC of Cooperative Bank Denies Involvement in 122cr Scam

Hiren Bhanu Offers Video Statement

Hiren Bhanu, the former vice-chairman of New India Cooperative Bank, has sent a letter to the EOW denying any role in the misuse of Rs 122 crore. He and his wife, Gauri, are accused of this misappropriation. Hiren Bhanu has expressed his readiness to give a statement to the EOW through audio or video communication.

Letter Sent by Solicitor

  • The letter was delivered by solicitor Sajal Yadav
  • It includes an affidavit from Hitesh Mehta, the bank’s general manager and head of accounts
  • Mehta takes responsibility for the loss of Rs 122 crore

Bhanu’s Residence and Gauri’s Travel

Bhanu has mentioned his 30-year residence abroad, currently in the UAE, and explained that his wife Gauri’s international travel was pre-planned and not an attempt to flee.

Look-Out Circular Notices Issued for Couple

The EOW has released look-out circular notices against the couple.

Mehta’s Disappearance and Confession

  • During an RBI bank inspection on Feb 12, Mehta vanished
  • He later contacted Bhanu and allegedly confessed to the misappropriation
  • Revealed a five-year pattern of theft, including Rs 70 crore given to a developer and Rs 40 crore to businessman Unnathan Arunachalam
