AIADMK Criticizes DMK’s Delimitation Meeting

Accusations of Hiding Governance Failures

NEW DELHI: The AIADMK, Tamil Nadu’s main opposition party, strongly criticized the DMK’s Parliamentary delimitation meeting held on Sunday. They accused the ruling party of staging a drama to cover up their failures. The meeting, chaired by chief minister Stalin and attended by Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan and Telangana CM A Revanth Reddy, was met with strong opposition from AIADMK spokesperson Kovai Sathyan.

Inconsistency in Stalin’s Stance

  • Sathyan highlighted the inconsistency in Stalin’s stance on delimitation.
  • Stalin’s invitation letter stated that he was not against delimitation, but feared it would reduce Tamil Nadu’s number of MPs.
  • However, within Tamil Nadu, DMK is claiming that the delimitation exercise itself is wrong.

“So, which one is true? Does Stalin not want delimitation, or if delimitation happens, what is the solution,” questioned Sathyan.

AIADMK’s Stand on Maintaining Tamil Nadu’s Current MP Representation

“We from AIADMK propose that the current proportion of 7.18% that Tamil Nadu has with respect to MPs should remain unchanged, which was intentionally omitted by DMK in its resolution passed in the all-party meeting called earlier,” he said.

DMK Accused of Using Delimitation Issue to Divert Attention

“This clearly shows that the DMK is desperate to cling to the narrative of delimitation to carry forward to the 2026 Assembly elections, in order to hide all their incompetencies and failures of this government which is deeply mired in corruption,” he stated.

Stalin’s Concerns About Population-Based Delimitation

Stalin has expressed concerns that population-based delimitation would reduce Lok Sabha seats for south Indian states. Saturday’s meeting urged for a 25-year extension of the freeze on Parliamentary constituencies based on the 1971 Census population.

Union Home Minister’s Assurance

Union Home Minister Amit Shah had previously assured that pro rata delimitation would not impact south Indian states.

Law and Order Situation in the State

The law and order situation in the state was also criticized as being in disarray.
