India’s PLI Schemes: Enhancing Key Sectors
Since 2021, the Indian government has disbursed around ₹14,020 crore under its Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes for 10 significant sectors. These sectors encompass large-scale electronics manufacturing, IT hardware, bulk drugs, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, telecom and networking products, food processing, white goods, automobiles and auto components, and drones and drone components.

Currently, 764 applications have been approved under the PLI scheme for 14 sectors, with 176 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) benefiting. The actual investment reported stands at around ₹1.6 lakh crore ($18.7 billion), leading to production/sales of approximately ₹14 lakh crore (around $162.8 billion). This has resulted in the creation of over 11.5 lakh direct and indirect employment opportunities.
Specialty Steel PLI Scheme: Progress and Impact
In the PLI scheme for specialty steel, companies have invested around ₹20,000 crore out of the committed ₹27,106 crore. These projects have provided direct employment to 9,000 individuals.
