Bill Gates on AI vs. Humans: Three Jobs Safe from Automation

The Rise of AI in the Workplace

Since OpenAI’s launch in 2022, AI has become common in workplaces globally. Tools like Gemini and Copilot are now widely used, leaving professionals wondering how AI will change the future of work and impact various jobs.

Bill Gates on AI and Job Security

At the India Express Adda, Microsoft co-founder and billionaire Bill Gates shared his thoughts on AI’s potential to take over jobs in the near future. He acknowledged that AI is a “deeply profound advancement” that will significantly change all activities.

Gates compared the AI revolution to the one he was part of, which made computers more accessible and affordable. He emphasized that just as computers were once scarce, intelligence is now scarce, and AI can help solve complex problems and make intelligence more widely available.

AI in Healthcare and Education

Gates believes that AI can be used to improve healthcare and education, among other fields. He envisions a future where inventing drugs, writing proposals, and making telesales calls are all done by software, making intelligence essentially free and abundant.

Three Jobs Safe from AI Automation

Despite the advancements in AI, Gates stated that there are three professions that AI will not be able to replace: coders, biologists, and energy experts.

  • Coders: Gates believes that coders will still have an essential role to play, even as AI becomes more prevalent.
  • Biologists: While AI can be used for disease diagnosis and DNA analysis, Gates argues that it lacks the creativity necessary to replace biologists in making scientific discoveries.
  • Energy Experts: Gates asserts that the field of energy is too complex to be fully automated, so energy experts will continue to be needed.
