Ratan Tata’s Generous Gifts to His Staff

Over Rs 3.5 Crore Left for House Helps and Office Staff

Ratan Tata, the late industrialist, left a generous amount of nearly Rs 3.5 crore to his house helps and office staff. This includes car cleaners, peons, and even a neighbor. He also forgave loans given to some staff members.

Money Distribution to Domestic Servants

  • Rs 15 lakh to be distributed among domestic servants who served him for over seven years
  • Rs 1 lakh to part-time helpers and car cleaners

Clothing to be Donated to NGOs

All of Tata’s clothing, including brands like Daks, Polo, Brooks Brothers, and Brioni suits, will be donated to NGOs to distribute to the underprivileged.

Specific Bequests

  • Rs 1 crore to his long-time cook Rajan Shaw (including a loan waiver of Rs 51 lakh)
  • Rs 66 lakh to butler Subbaiah Konar (including a loan waiver of Rs 36 lakh)
  • Rs 10 lakh to secretary Delnaz Gilder
  • Rs 1.5 crore loan cancellation for his executive assistant Shantanu Naidu
  • Rs 1.5 lakh to his driver Raju Leon and wrote off a Rs 18-lakh loan

Loans Forgiven

In his will dated Feb 23, 2022, Ratan Tata directed his executors not to recover certain loans and to consider them as bequests to the concerned servants/drivers.

Other Bequests

  • Rs 5 lakh to Tata Trusts consultant Hoshi D Malesara
  • Rs 2 lakh to his Alibaug bungalow caretaker Devendar Katamollu
  • Rs 1.5 lakh to personal assistant Deepti Divakaran
  • Rs 50,000 each to peons Gopal Singh and Pandurang Gurav
  • Rs 2 lakh loan waiver to Sarfaraz Deshmukh, one of his helpers

Allocation for His Dog, Tito

Rs 12 lakh allocated for his German shepherd Tito, with Rs 30,000 quarterly disbursements. Tito remains under Rajan Shaw’s care.

Loan Waiver for Neighbor

Rs 23.7-lakh loan given to his neighbor Jake Malite for his MBA at Warwick Business School, UK.

Residual Estate

One-third of Tata’s residual estate (excluding shares and immovable properties) was bequeathed to ex-Taj employee Mohini Dutta.

Seychelles Land

His Seychelles land worth Rs 85 lakh was bequeathed to RNT Associates, a Singapore-registered fund.

Executors of the Will

Each executor of the will, including his two half-sisters, friend Mehli Mistry, and Tata Trusts trustee Darius Khambata, will receive Rs 5 lakh as appreciation for their time and effort.

Funeral Expenses

The late industrialist had also ensured that his funeral and obsequial expenses be met by his estate. According to the executors, the funeral expenses were Rs 2,500.
