Abhishek Banerjee Leads TMC in Global Anti-Terrorism Delegation

TMC Picks Abhishek Banerjee for Global Anti-Terrorism Mission
New Delhi: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has picked Abhishek Banerjee to join the parliamentary delegations for Operation Sindoor. This decision was made after talks with Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and TMC leader Mamata Banerjee.
TMC’s Big Announcement
TMC shared on social media:
- “We’re happy to announce that our leader Mamata Banerjee has chosen National GS Abhishek Banerjee to represent Trinamool Congress in the all-party delegation for India’s global mission against terrorism.”
Abhishek Banerjee’s Views
Abhishek Banerjee had earlier stressed the need for wider talks before picking the members of such delegations. He said:
- “The Centre can’t decide alone who will go from which party. They must ask for names and talk with all political parties, especially the opposition.”
- “If you ask for five names from Trinamool, we will pick five MPs.”
He also agreed with the government’s reasons for the delegations, saying:
- “Now, I heard that the parliamentary affairs minister said that they’re ‘representing the country’ — and I totally agree with him. So if it’s about representing the country, we must all agree and work together.”
Broader Approach Needed
Abhishek Banerjee suggested a broader approach, saying:
- “Instead of sending only parliamentarians, we should think about sending the family members of heroes, survivors, or the brave officers who led Operation Sindoor from the frontlines, those who have risked their lives and stayed alert so India could sleep in peace. Who better to represent the country than them?”
Parliamentary Outreach Plan
The parliamentary outreach plan includes 51 political leaders — parliamentarians and former ministers from different parties, as well as eight former ambassadors. These members will form seven delegations that will travel to various world capitals to share India’s position on counterterrorism efforts and Operation Sindoor.
The delegations will be led by well-known political leaders, including:
- Baijayant Panda and Ravi Shankar Prasad (BJP)
- Sanjay Kumar Jha (JDU)
- Shrikant Eknath Shinde (Shiv Sena)
- Shashi Tharoor (Congress)
- Kanimozhi Karunanidhi (DMK)
- Supriya Sule (NCP-SP)
The groups are set to visit 32 countries along with the European Union headquarters in Brussels.
