Quick Actions Save Many Lives

Lucknow: Fast action by train drivers saved lives. They saw a large iron pipe, rocks, and broken concrete on the tracks in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district. Their alertness stopped the Delhi-Shamli train from derailing on Saturday night.

What Happened

Shamli police and railway officers are looking into the incident. It took place as the Delhi-Shamli train was nearing Shamli station. The train was moving through a block near km 85-15/16 at 10:16 pm.

“The alert drivers hit the emergency brakes just in time to avoid a crash,” said a Delhi Division Northern Railway official.

Earlier Trains

Before this, the Delhi-Saharanpur train had passed the same area at 9:10 pm. The crew did not see anything suspicious on the track.

“The Delhi-Shamli train later continued its trip to Shamli station. It was delayed by half an hour to clear the obstacles from the track,” added the official.

Police Report

Shamli police filed a report against unknown people. They used a law meant for such railway crimes.

Other Recent Incidents

The area has seen similar incidents lately. Here are a couple:

  • Someone tried to derail the New Delhi-Bhubaneswar Tejas Rajdhani Express. They placed rocks on the track between Bheerpur and Meja Road stations.
  • Two attempts were made to derail the Delhi-Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express and Kathgodam Express on May 19. Someone had put a wooden log on the track near Dalelnagar and Umar Tali stations.
