50 Naxalites Surrender in Chhattisgarh: A Big Step Forward

Union Minister Amit Shah Lauds the Move

Union Home Minister Amit Shah applauded the surrender of 50 Naxalites in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district. He hailed it as a significant step towards eradicating Naxalism in India. Shah welcomed those who had given up arms and encouraged others to renounce violence and join the mainstream.

Government’s Clear Stance

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policy is clear: any Naxalite who abandons weapons and chooses the path of development will be rehabilitated and integrated into the mainstream.
  • By March 31, 2026, Naxalism will be a thing of the past in the country. This is our resolution.

50 Naxalites Give Up Arms

  • Among the 50 surrendered Naxalites, 14 had a combined reward of Rs 68 lakh on their heads.
  • The District Reserve Guard (DRG), Bastar Fighters, Special Task Force (STF), CRPF, and its elite CoBRA unit facilitated the surrender.
  • Reasons for surrender: disenchantment with Maoist ideology, exploitation by senior cadres, and growing presence of security forces and government initiatives.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Upcoming Visit and Ongoing Operations

  • This surrender occurred just before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state.
  • Security forces are continuing operations against Naxal insurgents.
  • In two separate operations in Sukma and Bijapur, 18 Naxalites, including 11 women, were killed.
  • So far this year, 134 Naxalites have been killed in Chhattisgarh, with 118 eliminated in the Bastar region.
  • In 2024, 792 Naxalites have surrendered across the seven districts of Bastar.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Commends Security Forces

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai commended the security forces for their efforts. He expressed confidence that Amit Shah’s vision of a Naxal-free India by 2026 will be achieved.
