Auto Sales April 2025: Segment-wise Data

Passenger Vehicles

Passenger vehicle sales reached an all-time high in April. Domestic sales hit 3,48,847 units. This is a 3.9 percent increase from last year. This growth is notable, even without including luxury brands like BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), and Volvo.

Two-Wheelers

Two-wheelers, a strong pillar of the Indian auto market, saw a sharp decline. Sales dropped by 16.7 percent to 14,58,784 units. This is down from 17,51,393 units in April 2024. Here’s the breakdown:

  • Scooters: 5,48,370 units (5.7 percent dip)
  • Motorcycles: 8,71,666 units (22.7 percent fall)
  • Mopeds: 38,748 units (7.6 percent reduction)

SIAM attributed this slump to a high base effect from the previous year.

Three-Wheelers

Three-wheeler sales saw a slight dip. Total sales were 49,441 units, a 0.7 percent decline from last year. However, the passenger carrier category within this segment grew by 2.0 percent, selling 40,167 units. Goods carriers slipped by 7.7 percent to 8,135 units.

Electric Vehicles

The electric vehicle sub-segment showed mixed results. E-Rickshaw sales plunged by 36.5 percent. On the other hand, E-Carts saw a healthy rise of 16.6 percent.
