BCCI’s Response to Bengaluru Stampede and Future Safety Measures
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia Speaks Out
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia has addressed the tragic stampede during the RCB victory parade in Bengaluru. This incident resulted in the loss of 11 lives. Saikia stated that although it was a private event, the BCCI cannot remain silent as they are responsible for cricket in India.
BCCI’s Commitment to Safety
In an interview with Cricbuzz, Saikia said, “At some stage, the BCCI will have to take action. We cannot be silent spectators.”
He added, “It was a private event organized by RCB. However, the BCCI is responsible for cricket in India. We will work to prevent such incidents in the future.”
Future Measures for IPL Celebrations
The BCCI plans to implement measures to prevent similar incidents during future IPL victory celebrations. Although specific actions are not yet decided, the board will address this issue in the future.
Gautam Gambhir’s Stance on Victory Rallies
India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, has strongly opposed victory rallies. He believes that the safety of people is more important than celebrations.
Gambhir’s Concerns and Suggestions
Gambhir stated, “The lives of people are far more important. We should be careful and avoid roadshows. Instead, we can celebrate in stadiums or behind closed doors.”
He further added, “I never believed in roadshows during my playing days, and I still don’t. Winning and celebrating are important, but the life of any person is more important. If we cannot handle the crowd, then these roadshows should not take place.”
