BRS Leader KT Rama Rao Willing to Pledge Organs for Donation

Encourages MLAs and Constituents to Follow Suit

Hyderabad: BRS MLA and former minister KT Rama Rao expressed his willingness to donate his organs and urged other MLAs to do the same. He requested speaker Gaddam Prasad Rao to organize a program on the assembly premises for interested members to sign organ donation pledge forms.

Inspiring Constituents through Leadership

Rao believes that if public representatives take the initiative to pledge their organs, it will inspire their constituents to follow suit. Former minister T Harish Rao supported this notion, mentioning that before the central rules on organ donation were adopted, there were 189 cases of organ transplantation in 2013.

Increase in Organ Transplantations after Telangana State Formation

Harish Rao stated that after Telangana state was formed and the BRS came into power, the number of organ transplantations increased. He also welcomed the adoption of the central act, as he knew that 3,724 people had applied for organ donation and were awaiting transplantations.

New Rules Facilitate Organ Swaps

The new rules will enable organ swaps, where one person can donate an organ to another and receive an organ from a different person. Over the last 10 years, there have been 609 organ transplantations at NIMS, Osmania, and Gandhi Hospitals. During the previous BRS rule, 577 organ transplantations were done through the Arogyasri program, saving patients approximately Rs 20 lakh in expenses.
