Centre Approves Four-Lane Patna-Sasaram Project
Enhancing Connectivity and Reducing Traffic in Bihar
The Union cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the construction of a four-lane access-controlled corridor from Patna to Sasaram in Bihar. The project, valued at Rs 3,712 crore, will be developed under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM).
Existing Connectivity Issues
- Currently, connectivity between Sasaram, Ara, and Patna depends on existing state highways.
- These highways, such as SH-2, SH-12, SH-81, and SH-102, often experience heavy traffic, resulting in travel times of 3-4 hours.
The New 120km Greenfield Corridor
The new 120km greenfield corridor, along with a 10.6km upgrade of an existing brownfield highway, will help reduce congestion and cater to the needs of densely populated areas like Ara, Garhani, Piro, Bikramganj, Mokar, and Sasaram.
Better Connectivity and Economic Progress
- The project will link with major transport corridors, including NH-19, NH-319, NH-922, NH-131G, and NH-120.
- It will provide uninterrupted connectivity to Aurangabad, Kaimur, and Patna.
- The corridor will also improve access to two airports, four major railway stations, and one Inland Water Terminal in Patna.
- Upon completion, the corridor will stimulate regional economic growth and enhance connectivity between Patna, Ranchi, and Varanasi.
Job Creation and Socio-Economic Advancement
The project is anticipated to generate 48 lakh man-days of employment and foster socio-economic development in and around Patna.
