Churachandpur Bar Association Opposes Meitei Judges in SC Delegation

Unwelcome Visit

The Churachandpur District Bar Association has voiced its objection to the upcoming visit of a six-member Supreme Court (SC) delegation to Manipur. The association made it clear that they would not welcome any judge from the Meitei community in the tribal-majority district.

Justice N. Kotiswar Singh’s Inclusion

Justice N. Kotiswar Singh, a Manipur-based judge, is part of the six-judge team visiting displacement camps. The purpose of their visit is to reinforce legal and humanitarian support in the conflict-stricken state.

  • The bar association maintains that Meitei judges should not enter their district, regardless of whether their names are on the schedule.

The association’s statement said, “Lordships belonging to the Meitei community, for the sake of peace and public order, should not enter our district, even if their names are included in the program.”

SC Delegation’s Purpose

The six-judge delegation aims to visit camps for the displaced and offer legal and humanitarian assistance in Manipur.

Conclusion

The Churachandpur District Bar Association’s opposition to Meitei judges in the SC delegation might potentially impede the team’s efforts to aid those affected by the unrest in Manipur.
