Four Undertrials Escape from Samastipur Court
What Happened?
Four undertrials managed to escape from Samastipur court on Wednesday. They did this by overpowering the security personnel.
How Did It Happen?
Police had brought five prisoners to the court for different cases. After the hearing, all five tried to flee. However, the guards managed to catch one prisoner.
What Did the Authorities Do?
Samastipur SDPO-I, Sanjay Kumar Pandey, quickly reached the court premises. He assessed the situation and started a search operation right away.
Who Are the Escaped Prisoners?
The prisoners who escaped are:
- Rajnandan, also known as Chhotu or Haider, from Vaishali district
- Arvind Sahni from Vaishali district
- Manish Kumar from Muzaffarpur’s Mungauli village
- Manjeet Kumar from Muzaffarpur’s Mungauli village
The guards caught Nagendra Mahto from Vaishali’s Daulatpur Chandi.
How Did the Escape Happen?
Rajnandan had a court appearance for an Arms Act case. After the hearing, a guard took him to the court lock-up. That’s when the other accused pushed the guard and escaped.
What Are the Charges?
Rajnandan faces charges under the Arms Act. An FIR is lodged at the Town police station. Manish, Arvind, and Manjeet face robbery charges. An FIR is registered against them at Sarairanjan police station.
What’s Being Done to Find Them?
The authorities have cordoned off the city. They have launched a search operation to track the escaped prisoners.
Here’s what they’re doing:
- They circulated photos of the escaped prisoners to all police stations in the district.
- They are conducting surveillance at the border regions.
- Additional check posts are active to prevent the accused from leaving the district.
