Deputy CM Shivakumar Warns Waste Contractors

Deputy CM DK Shivakumar addressing the media

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has issued a clear warning. He stated that the government will not accept threats from waste contractors. These contractors are trying to halt the new waste tendering process.

Understanding the Issue

The Karnataka High Court recently paused the state government’s new tender. This tender aims to improve waste disposal in Bengaluru.

Government’s Clear Response

Shivakumar spoke to the media at Vidhana Soudha. He was there during a walkathon. The event was arranged by the Environment, Ecology Department and the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB).

Shivakumar said, “Some groups often use scare tactics. They file PILs or get court orders to threaten the government. But we will not accept this. Such tactics will not succeed.”

Criticism of Waste Contractors

Shivakumar strongly criticized waste contractors. He questioned their actions. “Aren’t we supposed to clean Bengaluru?” he asked. He also mentioned that he would review the court’s orders.

Shivakumar called the waste contractors a ‘mafia’. He explained, “Before, there were 89 tenders. All those who got these tenders have now formed a group. This is nothing but a mafia. They think they can mislead us. But we will reveal their actions in court.”

Government’s Future Plans

Shivakumar stated, “We will remove those trying to stop us. We will give chances to new players. They will help improve Bengaluru.”

Past Incidents

This is not the first time Shivakumar has criticized the waste mafia. During the budget session in March 2025, he told the legislature that all contractors formed a cartel. He also showed displeasure that a few MLAs are part of this blackmailing process.
