GST Collections in India: A Positive Trend

March 2025 GST Revenue Collection

India’s GST revenue collection for March 2025 saw a promising rise of 9.9% from the previous year, totaling Rs 1.96 lakh crore. Here’s the breakdown:

  • Central GST: Rs 38,100 crore
  • State GST: Rs 49,900 crore
  • Integrated GST: Rs 95,900 crore
  • GST cess: Rs 12,300 crore

Abhishek Jain, Indirect Tax Head & Partner at KPMG, shared his thoughts on this growth: “The nearly 10% increase in collections compared to last year shows economic stability and strong tax compliance by companies. With fiscal year-end adjustments and reconciliations underway, we can expect a further surge in month-on-month growth in the next set of collection.”

Net GST Collections and FY25 Overview

The net GST collections for March 2025 amounted to Rs 1.76 lakh crore, demonstrating a 7.3% year-over-year growth. For the entire fiscal year 2024-2025 (FY25), the gross GST collections reached Rs 22.08 lakh crore, indicating a 9.4% increase. After refund adjustments, the net GST collections for FY25 stood at Rs 19.56 lakh crore, up by 8.6%.

Previous Months’ GST Collections

  • February 2025: GST collections increased by 9.1%, totaling Rs 183,646 crore.

  • January 2025: Collections reached Rs 1.96 lakh crore, showing a 12.3% growth compared to the previous year.

  • December 2024: Collections amounted to Rs 1.77 lakh crore, displaying a 7.3% year-over-year increase.

The government’s Budget outlined an 11% projected increase in GST revenue for the year, with expected collections of Rs 11.78 lakh crore, including Central GST and compensation cess.
