Aadhaar card update guide

Keeping your mobile number updated with Aadhaar is very important. You need to visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or enrolment centre in person. Online updates are not allowed because you need to verify your identity with biometrics.

Why Should You Update Your Mobile Number?

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) says that linking the right mobile number with Aadhaar is very important. It helps you get many services like:

  • Government subsidies
  • Pensions
  • Healthcare services
  • Banking services
  • Insurance services

Important Things to Know

You must update your Aadhaar-linked mobile number by visiting a centre. Because biometric verification is needed, you cannot do this online.

How to Book an Appointment

Here are the steps to book an appointment:

  1. Go to UIDAI’s official website.
  2. Click on My Aadhaar, then Get Aadhaar, and then Book an Appointment.
  3. Enter your location and mobile number (even if it’s not linked to Aadhaar).
  4. Generate and verify the OTP.
  5. Confirm your appointment.

What You Need to Bring

When you visit the centre, make sure to carry:

  • Valid documents
  • Your appointment details

After you submit your request, updating your mobile number may take 2–4 weeks. You can check the status using the Update Request Number (URN) given to you at the time of submission.

Fees

Updating your mobile number costs Rs 50 if done separately. If you update your mobile number along with biometric updates, no extra fee is charged.

Check Your Existing Mobile Number and Email ID

UIDAI lets you check your existing mobile number and email ID through its website. Here’s how:

  1. Go to Aadhaar Services and click on Verify Email/Mobile Number.
  2. Enter your Aadhaar number, your contact info, and the CAPTCHA.
  3. Submit to see if the details are already registered.

According to UIDAI, “Using Aadhaar for various services like government and non-government services, subsidy benefits, pensions, scholarships, social benefits, banking, insurance, taxation, education, employment, healthcare, etc., makes it important to ensure that your Aadhaar data is accurate and up-to-date.”
