Income Tax Offices to Stay Open on March 29-31 for Last-Minute Tax Tasks
Longer Hours to Support Taxpayers
From March 29 to March 31, the Income Tax department’s offices throughout India will remain open. This extended schedule aims to assist taxpayers in completing any outstanding tax-related tasks before the fiscal year ends on March 31.
Weekend and Eid-al-Fitr
- Even though it’s the weekend and Eid-al-Fitr might be observed on Monday, Income Tax offices will still operate.
- The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) announced, “To enable the completion of pending work, all Income Tax Offices in India will stay open on March 29, 30, and 31, 2025.”
Deadline for Updated ITRs
March 31, 2025, is not only the last day of the fiscal year but also the final day for submitting updated Income Tax Returns (ITRs) for Assessment Year 2023-24.
RBI Notice for Banks
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued a similar notice, asking banks handling government business to stay open on March 31 for the convenience of taxpayers.
- The RBI has also arranged for special clearing operations nationwide to ensure that government receipts and payments are accurately recorded within the current fiscal year.
