India’s Response to Pakistan’s Criticism of PM Modi’s Comments

MEA Criticizes Pakistan for Labeling PM Modi’s Remarks as ‘Misleading’

NEW DELHI: India has responded strongly to Pakistan’s criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent comments on the bilateral issues between the two countries. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that the real issue is Pakistan’s “active promotion and sponsorship of cross-border terrorism” and that Islamabad should “vacate Indian territory under its illegal and forcible occupation”.

PM Modi’s Interview with Lex Fridman

In an interview with American podcaster Lex Fridman, PM Modi said that every attempt to foster peace with Pakistan was met with hostility and betrayal. He expressed hope that wisdom would prevail on the leadership in Islamabad to improve bilateral ties. Here are some key points from PM Modi’s interview:

  • PM Modi recalled India’s partition in 1947 as a painful and bloody chapter in history.
  • He accused Pakistan of exporting terror, saying that India is not its only victim.
  • PM Modi called Pakistan an ‘epicentre of turmoil’, urging its leadership to abandon the path of terrorism and work towards peace.

Pakistan’s Reaction

Islamabad reacted to PM Modi’s remarks by raking up the Kashmir issue and calling it an ‘unresolved dispute’. The Pakistan Foreign Office said in a statement that the remarks were ‘misleading and one-sided’ and conveniently omitted the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.

MEA’s Rebuttal

In a strong-worded rebuttal, the MEA called Islamabad a sponsor of cross-border terrorism, which is the ‘biggest roadblock to peace and security in the region’. The MEA stated that instead of spreading lies, Pakistan should vacate Indian territory under its illegal and forcible occupation.
