IPL 2025: Time for MS Dhoni to Retire?

Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar believes MS Dhoni should consider retiring from the IPL after this season. At 43, Dhoni was retained by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for ₹4 crore. He took over the captaincy again after Ruturaj Gaikwad’s injury.

Bangar’s Advice to Dhoni

Bangar shared his thoughts on an ESPNCricinfo program. He suggested, “It’s up to MS, but if I were him, I would say it’s enough. I’ve played as much as I wanted. I’ve looked after the franchise’s interests. It’s time to move on. The franchise will develop on its own. It might take a year longer, but I won’t be here forever.”

MS Dhoni’s Performance in IPL 2025

Dhoni has faced challenges this season, much like his team. Known for his big hits in the final overs, his performance has not been as strong this year.

Dhoni’s Batting Stats

  • Played 13 matches
  • Scored 196 runs
  • Average of 24.50
  • Strike rate of 135.17

Dhoni has often batted at number 9 this season. This has led some to question his role in the team.

Dhoni’s Legacy and Future

Dhoni is one of the most successful captains in IPL history. He has won five IPL titles. But as he gets older, retirement might be on his mind.

Dhoni has mentioned, “After this IPL, I have to see if my body can handle the pressure for the next 6-8 months.” This will determine if he plays in IPL 2026.
