Jamshedpur Student Invited to Japan for Science Program

A Life-Saving Innovation by Cyrus Kumar Dutta

Cyrus Kumar Dutta is a bright student from Jamshedpur. He studies in Class XI at PM Shri Upgraded High School. The Japanese government has invited him to present his science model. He will do this at the Sakura Science Exchange Program.

The Innovative Window Ladder

Cyrus created a special ladder. It folds up and serves as a window grill. But in emergencies, it becomes a ladder. This helps people escape safely from windows.

• Safe for Tall Buildings: Fires can block normal exits like stairs and lifts. This ladder gives people on upper floors a safe way out.
• Affordable and Simple: The ladder is made of iron. It looks like a regular window grill. This makes it cost-effective and easy to use.
• Easy to Use: The ladder has a simple latch. Anyone can open it. Then, they can turn the window grill into a ladder. This helps them climb down safely.

Recognition and Support for Cyrus

The Union Ministry of Science and Technology liked Cyrus’s innovation. They judged it as one of the five best models in the country. This was under the INSPIRE scheme in 2024.

Cyrus’s model was the only one from his state chosen for the Sakura program. A total of 54 students from all over the country are going to Japan. They will be there from June 15 to 21 for the program.

Family and School Stand by Cyrus

“I am proud of my son,” said Cyrus’s father, Premjeet Kumar Dutta. He drives an auto-rickshaw. “His innovative work has earned him a trip to a foreign country.”

Premjeet thanked the school for helping with the travel funds. The school’s principal, Arun Kumar, arranged Rs 25,000 for Cyrus’s journey. He did this quickly after learning about the family’s financial problems.

“The ladder uses a simple latch,” said Kalpana Bhagat. She is the school’s science teacher. She guided Cyrus in making his innovation. “Anyone can open the latch. Then, they can turn the window grill into a ladder to climb down.”
