Minister Directs Officials to Visit Schools Regularly

Ramdas Soren is the state minister for school education and literacy in Jharkhand. On Monday, he gave clear instructions. He told district education officers (DEOs) and district superintendents of education (DSEs) to visit government schools often. They need to check how well the schools are working. This will help ensure accountability and a good learning environment.

Key Points from the Minister’s Directive

  • DEOs and DSEs must visit their designated blocks at least once a month.
  • They should take classes to connect directly with students and educators.
  • Officials need to be in the field and in the classrooms, not just managing from behind desks.

Concerns Raised About Education Standards

At a review meeting at the Jharkhand Education Project Council (JEPC), Soren expressed concerns. He talked about the current state of education in the state. He pointed out several shortcomings from the latest evaluations.

Issues Highlighted by the Minister

  • Academic results in many districts were unsatisfactory.
  • Students’ performance in various districts is not up to the mark.
  • Immediate action is needed to rectify this situation.

Lack of Awareness Among Students

Soren also pointed out the absence of a progress report at the meeting. He raised concerns over the lack of general awareness among students in government schools. Many students cannot name the ministers, MLAs, or officials of their own region.

Minister’s Statement on Civic Education

Soren said, “This reflects poorly on the state of civic education. Teachers should go beyond the syllabus. They need to engage students with their social environment.”

Intermediate Admissions in Degree Colleges

Reacting to the issue of intermediate admissions in degree colleges, Soren said, “We are examining the matter. We need to see what possible steps can be taken. Such decisions cannot be made in a single day.”

Action Taken Against Negligent Officials

After the meeting, the department’s secretary, Umashankar Singh, issued show cause notices. These were for department officials in East Singhbhum, Lohardaga, and Simdega. The reason was negligence in distributing uniforms, textbooks, shoes, socks, and stationery to students.

Further Measures Announced

  • Singh expressed dissatisfaction with Jamtara district’s performance in stationery distribution.
  • A random survey of 50 schools in Deoghar, West Singhbhum, Palamu, and Lohardaga will be conducted.
  • This survey will assess the timely delivery of scheme benefits.
  • Strict action will be taken against any officer found negligent.
