Jharkhand High Court Advocates Protest Bench Delays
Advocates Raise Concerns Over Pending Cases and Delays
In Ranchi, the Advocates’ Association of Jharkhand High Court wrote an open letter to its members. They pointed out the growing number of pending cases and hearing delays. The cause is the “persistent and unreasonable constitution of benches by the current high court management.” The association has made several requests over the past three months, but no action has been taken.
What’s Bothering the Association?
Navin Kumar, the association secretary, said, “We are pained to write this letter, but we have no other option. We have urged the high court for the past three months to address this issue, but no action has been taken. Our members are feeling the pressure. Litigants are suffering, and our noble profession is being undermined.”
How Bench Constitution Affects Everyone
The current bench setup has caused several problems:
- Many cases are pending
- Writ petitions are piling up
- Bail hearings are delayed
- Other important judicial matters are stuck
Advocates find it hard to answer clients’ questions. People are losing faith in the judicial system. Lawyers are facing money problems due to delayed hearings.
Delayed Justice Leads to More Problems
When justice is delayed, it causes:
- Higher costs for those involved in cases
- Mental stress for everyone affected
- Violation of the right to a speedy trial
Steps Taken by the Association
The association has tried to fix these issues by:
- Writing to the Chief Justice of India and the Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court
- Holding meetings with the court administration
- Giving suggestions for better bench setup
However, the court administration has not shown any willingness to address these issues, the association noted.
Demands and Next Steps
The letter, signed by President Ritu Kumar, General Secretary Navin Kumar, and Treasurer Pranay, asked for immediate action. This includes:
- Protesting formally by submitting a memorandum
- Seeking an urgent meeting with the full court
- Asking the bar council to intervene
- Organizing peaceful protests within the court
- Talking to the media about their crisis
If these steps do not work, the association plans to:
- Stop all court proceedings for a certain period
- Approach higher judicial authorities
- Seek help from the Supreme Court
The association stated that the current situation is a serious threat to the rule of law and access to justice. They cannot stay silent while clients suffer. They asked all lawyers to unite and support their future actions.
