Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah Acts After Bengaluru Stampede
Top Police Officials Suspended; CID to Investigate Incident
NEW DELHI: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah made big announcements on Thursday. These came after a sad stampede during the IPL victory party for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Sadly, 11 people lost their lives.
Judicial Commission Set Up
A special team of one person will look into the stampede. Former Karnataka High Court Justice Michael Cunha will lead this team.
Arrests and Suspensions Made
The Chief Minister said that several people need to be arrested. This includes:
- People from RCB
- Managers of DNA, the event company
- Members of the Karnataka cricket group
Also, the cabinet decided to suspend top officials. The suspended officials are:
- The inspector of Cubbon Park police station
- The station house officer
- The Jurisdictional ACP
- The Central DCP
- The in-charge ACP of Chinnaswamy cricket stadium
- The Commissioner of Bengaluru City Police
Siddaramaiah explained, “Their carelessness seems to have caused this tragedy.”
More Investigations to Come
The case has been given to the Central Investigation Bureau. The special team has 30 days to give their report.
Government’s Response
Siddaramaiah shared his sadness. He said, “This should have never happened. We are with the families of the victims.”
He added, “After looking at the evidence with senior police and ministers, we have made these tough decisions.”
