Ninety students from the Kashmir Valley are heading to New Delhi. They were safely evacuated from Iran. This comes as tensions rise between Israel and Iran.
Government Steps In to Help
The Indian government assisted over 100 Indian students in leaving Iran. Videos show students boarding an IndiGo flight bound for India.
The Jammu and Kashmir Students’ Association (JKSA) is in touch with students in Iran. They shared a statement expressing their relief. “We are greatly relieved that 90 students from the Kashmir Valley will arrive in New Delhi tonight. This evacuation was made possible by the Government of India.”
Thanks and Hope for the Future
The JKSA expressed gratitude to the Indian government. They specifically thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar. “We are grateful for the timely evacuation. It has reassured anxious families during this uncertain time. We hope all remaining students will be evacuated soon.”
Current Situation of Students in Iran
Nasir Khuehami, the national convener of JKSA, shared more details. He said that 600 students, mostly from Kashmir, had reached Qom. Qom is a holy city in north central Iran.
He also reported that two Kashmiri students were injured. They were hurt during an Israeli airstrike on a hostel in Tehran. “Both students were wounded by shrapnel. One had a hand injury. The other had injuries to both his hand and leg. Fortunately, both are now in stable condition. The attack has left the students shaken and traumatized. However, these students have not been relocated or evacuated yet.”
