Kunal Kamra Controversy: Police Record Statements and Issue Third Notice
Comedian’s ‘Naya Bharat’ Video Causes Uproar
MUMBAI: The Khar police are now recording statements from the cameraperson and other staff who were present during Kunal Kamra’s ‘Naya Bharat’ video shoot on February 2. This case emerged after the video’s release on March 24, which resulted in 12 Shiv Sainiks vandalizing the Habitat studio in Khar (West) due to Kamra’s reference to Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde as ‘gaddar’. As a result, the Shiv Sena filed an FIR against Kamra at the Khar police station.
Third Notice Issued to Kamra by Police
- Police have issued a third notice to Kamra, asking him to appear for questioning by April 5.
- Kamra will be provided with adequate security upon his arrival in the city.
The Shiv Sena has announced that they will greet Kamra in ‘Sena style’ upon his arrival in Mumbai.
Audience Members Called for Questioning
- Around 70 people attended Kamra’s show during its recording.
- The Khar police have not disclosed the total number of audience members summoned for questioning under Section 179 of BNSS during the investigation.
- A 46-year-old banking professional from Kharghar had to cut short his 17-day holiday to return and provide a witness statement under BNSS.
Kamra has criticized the summoning of audience members, stating that it turns art into a crime scene. He has received two notices from the Khar police and has been granted interim relief from arrest by the Madras HC, with a hearing scheduled for April 7.
