Mehbooba Mufti Calls for Ceasefire

SRINAGAR: PDP president Mehbooba Mufti has asked for a lasting ceasefire along the Pakistan border in Jammu and Kashmir. She wants both central and state governments to focus on helping civilians affected by recent artillery fire and drone attacks during Operation Sindoor.

Focus on Humanitarian Needs

Mehbooba Mufti said, “Homes are not battlefields and families are not collateral. Every war waged by the powerful is a massacre endured by the powerless.” She made these comments while visiting Tangdhar, a village in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, which was heavily shelled by Pakistan after Indian airstrikes on terrorist camps.

Requests for Compensation and Support

The former Chief Minister asked for:

  • Better compensation for affected families
  • More housing aid
  • Quick installation of bunkers

She added, “These families want peace, not war. Instead of asking for schools, hospitals, or jobs, these people are forced to beg for bunkers to survive.”

Omar Abdullah Pushes for Peace

The ruling National Conference is sharing messages from Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who visited several border areas. He said, “War talk looks great from far-off places, not where real things happen. We feel sad when TV studio anchors talk about war. They should bring their studios to Srinagar where we see drones flying over our houses.”

Realities in Conflict Areas

Omar Abdullah stressed that peace must continue. He asked national media and policymakers to think about the real situation faced by civilians in conflict zones.
