A Nation’s Pride

Lucknow’s Triveninagar is buzzing with excitement. Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, a local hero, is set to make history. He will pilot Axiom Space’s fourth private astronaut mission (Ax-4). Shubhanshu will launch on SpaceX’s Falcon-9 rocket from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. This mission marks India’s return to human spaceflight after 40 years.

A Community Celebrates

The Shukla family home is adorned with vibrant posters. These posters celebrate Shubhanshu’s achievement. Neighbors gather with pride. They share stories of the boy who once played in these streets. Now, he carries the hopes of a nation.

“Shubhanshu is a role model,” says Radhey Shyam Shukla, a neighbor. “Because of him, Triveni Nagar’s name is known across India.”

A Family’s Joy and Prayers

Inside the home, Asha Shukla, Shubhanshu’s mother, sits with folded hands. Her heart is filled with joy and prayer. “We performed a puja and havan, as is our tradition before big events. On Bada Mangal, we’ll recite the Sundar Kand with our family. We seek blessings for his safety and success. As a mother, I’ve seen Shubhanshu’s commitment and sacrifices. My only prayer is that everything goes well,” Asha shares.

Shambhu Dayal Shukla, Shubhanshu’s father, is full of emotion. “This is a proud moment for our family and the entire country. Shubhanshu has always been determined. But this achievement is beyond our wildest dreams. Since August last year, he has dedicated himself to this mission. He has sacrificed many comforts to stay focused. Seeing him selected for Ax-4 feels like a reward for his hard work.”

A Disciplined Journey

Shubhanshu is the youngest of three siblings. He has two elder sisters, Nidhi Mishra and Shuchi Shukla.

“Shubhanshu has always been very disciplined,” Nidhi says. “For the last 12 years, he has managed his own diet. He avoids oily foods and prepares his meals himself. He weighs himself every morning and evening. He sticks strictly to his schedule. Now, we see it was all part of his preparation for this mission. He’s brought pride not just to our family but to the entire nation.”
