Metro 3 Services Back at Acharya Atre Chowk

Services Running Again After Heavy Rain
Mumbai: Good news for commuters! Metro services at Acharya Atre Chowk station on Line 3 started again on Friday afternoon. Heavy rain and flooding had stopped services for six days. The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL) fixed the issues and opened the station at 1 pm. Now, people can travel as usual on the Aarey JVLR-Bandra-Acharya Atre Chowk underground route.
Why Did the Station Close?
The station had to close on May 26 because of heavy rain. Water filled the station, which is still being built. For safety, services stopped temporarily. MMRCL teams worked hard to remove the water and check the systems. They made sure everything was safe before opening the station again.
What Did MMRCL Say?
MMRCL shared a statement: “All services between Aarey, JVLR, and Acharya Atre Chowk will now run on the regular schedule.”
What Caused the Flooding?
Officials found that a strong concrete wall broke at one of the station’s entry/exit points. This wall was supposed to hold back water. When it broke, rainwater rushed in from a nearby trench. Luckily, this part of the station is still under construction and not open to the public.
How Will They Prevent This in the Future?
To stop this from happening again, MMRCL plans to build a strong, permanent wall at Acharya Atre Chowk station. This wall will protect the station from extreme weather.
Why Is Acharya Atre Chowk Station Important?
Acharya Atre Chowk is in Worli. It’s a key station in Phase 2A of the Aqua Line. Many office workers and residents in central Mumbai use this station. The phase from BKC to Acharya Atre Chowk opened for commuters on May 10.
