Nilanjana S Roy Joins 2026 International Booker Prize Jury
Meet the Jury
We are thrilled to announce that Nilanjana S Roy, a renowned novelist and journalist from Delhi, has joined the jury for the 2026 International Booker Prize. She will collaborate with four other distinguished members:
- Natasha Brown, the chair and an accomplished author
- Marcus du Sautoy, a celebrated writer and professor
- Sophie Hughes, a talented translator
- Troy Onyango, a versatile writer, editor, and bookshop owner
About the International Booker Prize
The International Booker Prize honors the vital role of translation in literature. The prize includes a substantial £50,000 award. This amount is shared equally between the winning author and translator(s).
Each shortlisted title is also recognized with a £5,000 prize. This is divided as £2,500 for the author and £2,500 for the translator(s).

Judging the Prize
Roy shared her insights on judging the prize for translated fiction. She stated, “To translate is to undertake a powerful act of generosity, creativity, and connection. It is to carry literature from one language to another. It forges kinship across distance.”
