Non-Teaching Staff Question Exclusion from Schools Amid SSC Tangle

Untainted Teachers Allowed to Return, Non-Teaching Staff Left in Limbo

Legal Battle Continues for Non-Teaching Staff

As untainted teachers prepare to return to classes on Saturday, non-teaching staff who were also caught in the SSC tangle are questioning why they are not being allowed to rejoin school. These staff members, including Group C and Group D employees, are fighting the legal battle alongside teachers after losing their jobs following the Supreme Court order earlier this month.

Overlooked Role of Non-Teaching Staff

The Supreme Court considered a miscellaneous application filed by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) and permitted untainted teachers to continue their services until December 31. However, the role of non-teaching staff was overlooked, despite their hard work to ensure schools operate smoothly.

Hardships Faced by Non-Teaching Staff

  • Sudam Mandal, the only earning member of his family, questioned why non-teaching staff cannot attend schools when teachers can.
  • Asit Haldar, another Group D staff member, pointed out that lab assistants are necessary to run the work at the laboratories.
  • Monotosh Sardar, who served as Group C staff, expressed his frustration at being jobless and not knowing how to face his family.

School Heads Echo Sentiment

Advanced Society for Headmasters and Headmistresses general secretary Chandan Maiti echoed the sentiment, stating that non-teaching staff members are equally important for running schools. If teachers can continue, why not staff members?
