Anna University Rape Case: Political Debate Rages On
Chennai: DMK and Opposition Parties Clash
The debate between DMK and opposition parties about the Anna University rape case continued on Monday. This happened even after the Mahila court sentenced A Gnanasekaran to life in prison.
Stalin’s Strong Words
Chief Minister Stalin criticized opposition parties. He called them ‘narrow-minded’ and accused them of playing politics. Stalin praised the police for their quick work. He said the opposition was trying to gain politically from the issue.
Stalin pointed out that the investigation was fast. The verdict came in just five months. He thanked the police and prosecution for their hard work.
Opposition’s Questions
AIADMK leader Edappadi K Palaniswami said the investigation was too quick. He believes Gnanasekaran was not the only one involved. Palaniswami mentioned a ‘sir’ connected to the crime.
Palaniswami asked several important questions:
- Who is the ‘sir’ mentioned in the FIR?
- Why was the ‘sir’s involvement ignored during the trial?
- Why did the DMK government hurry to close the case?
- Who protected the ‘sir’?
Palaniswami said these questions will be answered when AIADMK forms the government.
BJP and PMK’s Concerns
BJP leader Nainar Nagenthran also had doubts. He welcomed the judgment but questioned the investigation. He suggested it was done too quickly to protect a DMK member.
PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss also questioned another person’s involvement. He urged the state government to appoint good lawyers if Gnanasekaran appeals. Ramadoss demanded 50 lakh rupees in compensation for the survivor.
TNCC’s Defense
TNCC president Selvaperunthagai defended the DMK government. He challenged AIADMK and BJP to reveal the ‘sir’s identity. Selvaperunthagai dared BJP to prove Gnanasekaran called someone else by checking his call records. He accused BJP and AIADMK of politicizing the issue without proof.
