Rajit Gupta Leads JEE Advanced 2025 with Top Score
Kota Student Achieves Remarkable Feat
Rajit Gupta from Kota has secured the top position in JEE Advanced 2025. He scored an impressive 332 out of 360 marks. His father also excelled in engineering exams. Rajit plans to join IIT Bombay’s computer science department.
A Tight Race to the Top
Saksham Jindal from Haryana matched Rajit’s score. However, Rajit emerged victorious due to tie-breaking rules. Majid Husain secured the third position with 330 marks. This year, many students achieved similar scores, making the competition exceptionally tough.
Kota’s Impressive Track Record
Kota, renowned for its coaching centers, had an outstanding year. A remarkable 42 students from Kota ranked in the top 100. This is the best result since the exam’s current format began in 2013.
Increased Female Participation in JEE Advanced
Out of 54,378 successful candidates, 9,404 were women. Devdutta Majhi from West Bengal is the highest-ranking female candidate. She scored 312 marks and secured the 16th position. She will join the Indian Institute of Science.
Lower Qualifying Marks
The minimum qualifying marks for the general category decreased to 74 this year. Last year, it was 109. The subject-wise cutoff also reduced. This year, students needed only 7 marks per subject.
- OBC and Economically Weaker Sections required 66 marks.
- SC/ST candidates qualified with 37 marks.
Performance Across Different Zones
Students from the IIT Bombay zone performed well in the top ranks. However, the IIT Hyderabad zone had the most successful candidates. An impressive 13,000 candidates from this zone passed the exam. The IIT Delhi zone had 11,370 qualifiers, while the IIT Bombay zone had 11,226 qualifiers.

Sreedhar Babu, a math mentor, noted that the exam was lengthy. Some students lost momentum halfway through. He also observed that educated guessing benefited some students. Those who focused on every detail did not gain as much advantage.
