MUMBAI: Reliance Industries made a big announcement on Thursday. Its subsidiary, Siddhant Commercials, sold 3.5 crore equity shares of Asian Paints. These shares were sold on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) at Rs 2,201 per share.

Key Details of the Deal

  • The entire block of Asian Paints stock is 3.6% of the company’s equity.
  • SBI Mutual Fund bought the entire block.
  • The total deal value is nearly Rs 7,704 crore.

Current Holdings

Reliance Industries still owns 87 lakh Asian Paints shares. As of March 31, 2025, Siddhant Commercials held nearly 4.7 crore shares. This was 4.9% of Asian Paints’ equity.

Market Performance

On Thursday, the market was weak. Reliance Industries’ stock price closed 0.6% lower. However, Asian Paints shares closed 0.4% up.

Historical Context

Reliance Industries bought the stake in Asian Paints in 2008. The purchase was for about Rs 500 crore.
